A glimpse of a friend and athlete by the name of Pete Billington. Film by Landis Fields, Zac Wollons, Punn Wiantrakoon, and Brian Berringer. Directed and Edited by Landis Fields. The project required 2 locations. All of the outdoor shots were taken out of the back/top of a four door jeep wrangler going up Mount Tamalpais. Everything else took place on a stage in a controlled studio environment that was lit using 2 soft boxes. The entire film was shot on 2 canon 7D's (mostly at 60p for "slow-mo" flexibility later on while editing) and 1 Canon 5D at 30p which was conformed to a 24 frame timeline. All cameras were equipped with different lenses that fit the needs of each shot. Music by A Perfect Circle - Outsider (Apocalypse Remix). I hope you enjoy the film as much as we did creating it.

Luke,
I used Premiere for the edit and then without rendering I then imported the project into after affects for color grading. It was nice to only have to render once at the end (in after affects) since the raw footage is already h264 compression out of the cameras.
Steve,
Picture style was achieved using video capable dslr cams. By setting the shutter speed double (or as close to) the frame rate the footage will look pretty close to film right off the chip. As for lenses, on the 7D I used the canon 50m 1.4 for the handheld studio shots and the 24-105 (the 5D kit lens) for the shots in the jeep which was nice because it has IS as well. For the other 7D we used the canon 70-200 w/IS. Last but not least for the 5D we used the canon 85m 1.2.
Mike,
It was definately a mixture of both. The 7D is sick because it can shoot at 60P so we pretty much had those locked at that frame rate so that I would have the slo-mo flexibility while editing, however, when shooting at 60p it can only record at 720p (as if that's too small...hehe). Anyways, I knew I was going to edit at 720 so that wasn't an issue. That being said the 5D footage was all shot at 1080p so I had allot of extra padding while editing for fake close-ups, etc. Of course footage from any of the cameras could be made faster after the fact but only the 7D shots could be slowed down like butter due to the 60p. Both cameras are sick. I own a 7D, my buddy has both a 7D and a 5D. Less noise with the 5D due to the larger sensor but that's only an issue in low light shots.
Justin,
Thanks! Makes me want to dust off my mountain bike too! All of us that worked on the film ride but I have been slackin' the most by far.
More and more footage coming out from the Canon's. Starting to make me think about 'upgrading' my Nikon.
Planning on getting a 5D soon, I'll be asking alot of questions
with APC for music, <3
When I asked Reubal what I need to get this kind of quality he told me I need a bit.ly/88K0Wh.
I think you have shown that I probably can make it anyway!

Techie-dork question...how did you get the smooth transition from regular speed to slow motion on the jump? That was awesome. I've messed around a couple times and can't seem to get a smooth clip. This was excellent!

IM GOING TO BUY THIS CAMERA NO MATTER WHAT
WHAT LENS DID YOU USE
My brother is a bicyclist just like your friend. He has won several national championships. Maybe it's a good idea to do a portrait of him.
Thank you for inspiring me once more.
You are one of the people that i actually pay close attention to here on vimeo.
Other than that, great choice of music score.
GC.
Giorgio,
You should definitely do a video of your brother. I forgot to ask you, what camera do you use?
U ARE MAD, MAN!!!
I REALLY ADORE THE LOOK!!!
Great video btw, loved it!
Also, were you using any sort of stabilization system other than IS in the lenses?
Great work!
Keep pushing!
Thanks
