Uranium City - Life After the Mine in Saskatchewan
As C-GRUG, a Cessna 172 dips and shudders towards Uranium City's dimly lit, cracked and re-tarred runway, McMurray Aviation pilot Brock radios in the plane's location to a nonexistent control tower.
Silently, the shattered and desolated remains of homes slip into darkness beneath the plane.
Streets, cul-de-sacs and treed alleyways are lined with empty homes.
Some homes still have windows and walls -- for others, only a staircase leading to the sky remains.
A barrage of trees and shrubs surround the homes -- eager to reclaim the land.
Where humans still dwell, smoke traces lazily drift from the chimneys into the chilled northern air.
