Here's a very rough test of an effect I want to use for a Nine Inch Nails short film contest.

The basic idea is someone looking through & rearranging a handful of pictures. But, instead of seeing pictures, we'll see various clips of video, like this :)

It's a really really cool effect. A video like this with the card on sand and the sea on the card (sound too), hmm.
  • Actually, that's not sand...it's my bedroom rug. Haha! :) But I see what you are saying. I have some tricks up my sleeve don't you worry Remyyy

Ahah, I know you are not out of ideas. Sorry if it was looking as if I was suggesting otherwise. That's just what came into my mind, making me sigh.

Ah, nice - I plan on doing something for the contest as well. What track are you using? If you don't mind my asking.
  • Now I can't tell you that or I'd have to kill you :)

I'll give you this: It's on the second album.

What program did you use for your key-framing? (that is if you did it that way, there maybe ways that I don't know of yet)

Aww damn, I just saw a key word as After Effects. Cool! I love me some After Effects key-framing. Need to learn the expressions part of the program.
  • Jesse Knight 6 months ago
That is "I" need to learn the expressions part. Sorry to be long winded.
  • No worries, friend.

Yea I don't quite understand expressions all that much. I only use them if they use them in a tutorial I'm trying to follow. I don't understand the how or whys.

An important technique you should learn though, is motion tracking. That's what this video was about, just testing how the effect would work for something bigger. Right now I'm working on NIN video with this same effect. This was just my initial test which I had to motion track first.

there are a few tracking problems, but its a pretty good effect!.
try using Monet ,its better for tracking than after effects.
  • Ah yes I realize the tracking issues. This was my first crack at it. As far as Monet, I've never heard of it, what kind of program is it? Right now I'm feverishly to learn Shake.

monet its a "new" tracking, stabilisation and rotoscoping software. its very easy to used and very very powerfull. the best thing about monet is that you cant export the tracking data to after effects pressing Ctrl+c / Ctrl+v.

if you want more info about monet, check out this:

  • hmmm...well check this quick test video out that I just did this afternoon. It's waiting in line to be converted. I have a couple of issues with a smooth cam filter. Maybe you can answer my question....
