On Wednesday, November 6, Aperture Foundation and the Consulate General of Sweden hosted a conversation with Swedish photographer JH Engström in honor of his first U.S. publication, Sketch of Paris (Aperture, 2013). Engström has lived and worked in Paris for over twenty years, and this body of work demonstrates a gritty, uncensored view of life in his adopted city. After presenting a slideshow of images from Sketch of Paris and answering questions throughout the talk, Engström signed copies of the book, which was also available for purchase at the Aperture Bookstore. The photographs provided an homage to a city that Engström said had greatly influenced and inspired him, both as a photographer and a person.
