In the 1800s, Joseph Bonaparte – Napoleon’s older brother – came to America, living in Philadelphia and then Bordentown, NJ, where he built a magnificent estate along the Delaware River. There he designed elaborate gardens, entertained leading figures of the day, and surrounded himself with the largest and most important collection of European fine and decorative art in America.
