United Health Services (UHS), the largest provider of hospital and healthcare-related services in New York’s Southern Tier, needed an integrated outpatient center that would improve access to services in an underserved market, implement a new market standard in the delivery of services, and strengthen its brand.
NexCore Group collaborated with UHS to develop an 85,500 square foot, off-campus, multispecialty center in the Town of Vestal, one of the fastest growing retail corridors in the Southern Tier. The one-stop-shop facility, which was completed in September 2012, provides primary care, rheumatology, cardiology, imaging, walk-in center, women’s center, lab and pharmacy services.
Building upon feedback obtained from UMA physicians, patient surveys, and focus groups, the NexCore team thoroughly evaluated best practices related to physician practice patterns and patient flow as part of the medical planning and reprogramming of the Vestal facility to create dramatically different but far more efficient layouts than those of most existing facilities. The team was able to eliminate excess space, reduce costs, and enhance the delivery of patient care.
According to Joe Cerra, Senior Vice President of Physician Practice Management at UHS, the performance of most business lines at the Vestal facility have exceeded expectations. The Vestal walk-in center is already busier than any of the system’s other urgent care centers, and in its first four months of operation, the walk-in center surpassed volume projections by an impressive 41%. Cerra also says that the system’s overall pharmacy numbers have grown at a rate of 14% since the Vestal pharmacy opened its doors.
