A 6 hour ride turned into a 10 hour slog in the rain as I made tracks for a small pueblo called Xilitla in the state of San Luis Potosi, Mexico. Although I also found a cave, what I came for was Las Pozas de Edward James, an 80 acre personal “garden of eden” imagined by surrealist artist Edward James for his own amusement, and brought to life with the help of local sculptors. I came to find out just how crazy Edward was, and after 5 hours of walking through endless subtropical mountain forst, rivers, waterfalls, and countless hidden structures masterfully crafted into the natural geography and straight out of an M.C. Escher painting, I left both humbled and amazed. Las Pozas de Edward James is certainly a place to behold with your own eyes, as well as a place to have them bewildered.
