Alton Lowe discusses his paintings of the Lucayan Tainos, which were commissioned by the Bahamas government as postage stamps.
In 2007, I set out to create a feature film about the indigenous people of the Caribbean. My inspiration: "The Lucayans" - a novella by Sandra Riley, with illustrations by internationally renowned artist Alton Lowe. Moved by that that story - and those paintings, my debut film turned into a 5-year docu-drama project produced by a Miami-based non-profit organization, the Crystal Parrot Players. CPP continues to support new projects that give to the South Florida community, the Florida Keys, our surrounding Caribbean islands, our Bahamian brothers and sisters, and our global family through the arts. This video clip was later created from outtake footage of the feature film FULL CIRCLE: A TAINO STORY (2012).
