"I never laugh until I've had my coffee." - Clark Gable

I do not function without my caffeine. On a whim I thought I would throw together a little homage to my machine and my favorite tasty beverage.

Truth be known, while it looks pretty decent this was quite honestly the single worst cup of coffee I have had in my entire life. I am however happy to report that the one I made after I was done filming was nothing less than exquisite. ;)

Shot with a Sony EX1 and edited with Sony Vegas
CC Magic Bullet

Music: John Coltrane - Body and Soul

very nice! what site did you get alll the sound effects and background music?
  • Underground Planet plus 2 years ago
Thanks! The song is John Coltrane - Body and Soul. As for sound, since the TV was going when I was shooting the vid I did a quick take after where I just got the sounds and then added them in in post.

  • YUMMMMMM! YES, corporate coffee does suck! It's a image or fad thing with most people. If it was a coffee thing, they would actually take the time to make it. Don't get me started on the "Starbuckies"!
  • Underground Planet plus 2 years ago
The first one I did had the mock "Starfucks" logo, but in the end didn't think that it made as much sense in the vid ... but yea, I'm witcha obviously.

    Both cool and groovy...
Maybe just the end text could look more like the start text or something?
The only way is UP :-)
  • Underground Planet plus 2 years ago
Danka ... not sure what ya mean about the text though? The Underground Planet logo?
  •
  • David Esp plus 2 years ago
"The Underground Planet logo" - ??? You're kidding, that was one of the best bits!

Liked the large yellowish translucent text at the beginning but for me the (more?) opaque solid large brownish text at the end seemed out of keeping with the sophistication established (extremely well) by everything up till then. Just nagged me somehow.

To my eyes, perhaps just some greater translucency would help or the same yellow as at the start. Possibly some FX on the text itself (letter shapes) such as feathered edges or texture or motion inside (or is that OTT). Not sure - but I'd know it when I saw it!

Anyhow I learned a lot from your vid and also need to hear some more John Coltrane!
  • Underground Planet plus 2 years ago
Thanks for clarifying. The text at the end and beginning are the same (font, opacity, etc) the only difference being the second is darker in color. I would have used the exact same but at the end it wasn't very readable. Often when this happens people will use a drop shadow or outline but neither of those options would have looked right to me in this particular vid and drop shadows with something that isn't opaque will actually change the color of whatever it's on. At your behest, and out of my sheer abundance of free time this afternoon, I've dropped the opacity on the last another 10% which still looks good in my eyes. Will upload it when it's done rendering ... and it better meet your approval then ya picky bastage! =)

Quick question, the blurred or feathered edges.. Is that a Magic Bullet thing, the Vegas radial blur, or something else? It looks quite nice and I'm thinking of adding something similar to my chai tea movie that I shot a couple of weeks back, but haven't edited yet because I still need to record the music for it.
  • Underground Planet plus 2 years ago
Its a Vegas plug-in by Velvet Matter, you can check it here:

    tinyurl.com/3xvtd3

In particular it's the Soft Contrast with the Vignette tweaked and set to blur.

    Hope that helps!

The perfect mood for a nice cappuccino on a cold and rainy morning and Coltrane...nothing else needed. Pasquini should pay you for the commercial:) Were those Illy beans being ground?
  • Underground Planet plus 2 years ago
Good spot, yes indeed that's Illy, love the stuff. The only espresso I've used at home for years. Yummy. =)

Looks like a sweet machine. got straight up and made a brew after seeing that.

Whats this corporate coffee sucks thing?
We have a Nesspresso at work and it makes constant great coffee of your choice. freshly ground blends that are vacuum sealed in tinfoil colour coded tablets. Pop a tab in the machine and it peirces both sides with micro holes and forces water through.
The milk is in a hopper thats steam injected while its dispensed. Great coffee every time.
I would have that machine any day than my Seco gran- crema deluxe. Mind you, They both sound like malfunctioning fish tank pumps while working.
    Hate that!
Edit: just relised that corporate coffee means the overpriced franchised coffee houses that dot the planet. yes?
  • Underground Planet plus 2 years ago
lol, yes, thats what it means. =)

effortlessly smooth, yellow warmth; dream of hearing same inviting sounds stopping in the communal lounge barn, after a cloudy morning wooded cross country skiing loop. coffee - the luxury, the allure. double drip! plop! i amost don't even mind i could not partake of the cup, though now it's starting to gnaw at me... ;-)
  • Underground Planet plus 2 years ago
lol, thanks Lee, I think your description is actually better then the vid! And I'd sendja a cup but I just don't think it would be quite the same.

ahhhhh.... just watched with a fresh cup. don't have the expresso machine but do have a burr grinder and french press. sorry your coffee from the video wasn't very good, mine is tasting great. video was excellent, nicely done and could sell hundreds of machines if it were a commercial
  • Underground Planet plus 2 years ago
Drinkin my first cup of the day and it's pretty solid. The fancy stuff is for the afternoon, I drink drip in the morning. French presses are awesome but too much work when I wake up. For my morning coffee (which my mornings don't usually start till noon) I use Illy also, either Medium or Dark roast.

Great video and camera (work), but if I may be so bold; I too have a Pasquini espresso machine and I believe your grind is too coarse. Your espresso lacks créma and looks a bit watery. It should be very viscous, almost syrupy as it comes out of the machine. Tighten the grind a couple of clicks and use Pasquini's Extrabar coffee beans for a better cup of Joe!! Otherwise keep up the great work.
  • Underground Planet plus 2 years ago
lol, thanks and I said in my description it was a horrible cup of coffee!!! =)

And sorry, but nuttin can get me away from Illy.
  • Torv Carlsen 2 years ago
    Ah, dude....

I know the Illy is good, but I use it as my backup coffee when I forget to order the Extrabar from Pasquini's web site. Believe me when I say it rocks!!

    Here's the Pasquini link:
