Based on the nearest corner to the apartment I lived in for 5 years. The backgrounds are loosely related to the shops and restaurants that used to be there.
It is probably the result of having spent those years working alone at home, crossing that corner at least twice daily to buy cigarettes.
I quit smoking, and don't live there anymore.
