I decided it was time to get a camera which I could carry around with me inconspicuously and without inconvenience. After much research I decided on a Panasonic Lumix LX3. Curious as to its video capabilities, I took it for a walk through the East Village one night, just shooting people and places as they appeared.
Trying not to appear threatening, I followed the old lady down first avenue as she shuffled along with her load. I was curious as to whether anyone would offer to help her carry it.
I'm pretty impressed with the cameras performance. It takes tack sharp stills. It's video performance, especially in the low light of a NY december night is not bad, although it does seem to have issues with some artificial light sources. Considering it's size, weight and cost though, it is my new favorite camera.
