With some Aucklanders exploring a fort from the late 1880s which was built to defend Auckland from the threat of Russian expansion in the Pacific. Little did the tourists know, while they were shooting their selfies and family pictures with the Auckland Harbour Bridge and Sky Tower in the background, that right beneath their feet we were exploring rooms and narrow passageways normally off-limits to the public. A restoration project in the early 2000's seems to have stalled, leaving the spaces cleared of rubble, walls whitewashed and not a single piece of graffiti anywhere, but otherwise ghostly and empty.
