part of my diploma project, Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw
Project My World Is Not Where I Am consist of 24 photos, format 30x45cm, video-installation 06:35 and a few interviews that I took from my friends and people the same age. Project is an attempt to describe my own identity as a new Ukrainian society that was born after USSR's collapse. I talk about phenomenon, which characterized us – a non-acceptance of reality, aspirations of escape and search of our own way and own place out of country. I show it in context of Ukraine, young state where I was born, and in the environment of young generation.
I want to describe that internal feeling that connects us and related to our state of mind.
I used two technologies in my work: digital and analog. In that way I reflected my own life and lives of my heroes. We were born in analog world and have grown in the world of digital technologies.
I tried to make a certain contrast – young people against society where society present as a symbol of public spaces. The aim consisted in a visual provocation of the conflict between these two constituents.
Describing my generation I came to conclusion that we are globalized as much as globalized today’s world and cultural identity is more important than nationality at that kind of game.
