Video footage and pictures from the ten days my wife and I spent on the Utila Cays, Honduras in the Summer of 2013. We got our Open Water Certification done with Utila Cays Diving ( while spending a few days at Hotel Kayla on Jewel Cay.

Check out UCD on Tripadvisor: (Highly Recommended)

We then rented Sandy Cay, a small family owned island for three nights. Had the whole Island to ourselves! The cay has a furnished beach house on it, coconut palms, it's own sandy beach, and a nice little reef just off the dock.

Video was shot using a GoPro Hero 3 Silver Edition. This was my first time using it, so it pretty much was a learning experience. There's quite a bit of camera shake, and I've never really edited video before so its probably not the greatest. Still Photographs were taken using a Canon T3i and Samsung Galaxy SII.

The Bay Islands of Honduras are home to parts of the Mesoamerican Reef System , the second largest barrier reef system in the world. For this reason, the biodiversity is incredible, and the waters are very clear.....makes for some awesome diving!!! I would highly recommend a visit to the Utila Cays specifically as it offers a ton of adventure and a very unique cultural experience. And where else in the world could you afford to rent your own island??
