In October 2013, the USC Institute for Global Health hosted Dr. D.A. Henderson, the lead epidemiologist in the World Health Organization’s campaign to wipe out smallpox—the only infectious disease in history to be successfully eradicated. His book, Smallpox: The Death of a Disease details his personal story of in leading the eradication campaign, a feat some have described as “the greatest scientific and humanitarian achievement of the past century.”
