The STAREMASTER DeTournement films are from a video portrait series that magnifies the playground past-time of staring contests to gloriously absurd proportions. With a deadpan sense of seriousness and purpose the film delivers a playful 'reflection' on the essential experience of cinema by using minimalist aesthetics in the formal structure of exposition, rising action, climax, falling action and denouement.
Seamlessly blending the aesthetics of Andy Warhol, John Cage, Merv Griffin and Guy Debord - and without resorting to heavy-handed polemics - the film calls into question the increasingly arbitrary distinction between spectators and the spectacle.
STAREMASTER DeTournement20131031 has been submitted to a few short film festivals, most of these festivals will only accept premieres, so the short film will not be screened online or to an audience until after it finds a place in a festival.
