Dawaz is Uyghur for wire-walking, this acrobatic performing art has a history of over 1,000 years and is documented in the Turkic Dictionary composed between 1072 and 1074. Today's dawaz performance hasn't changed too much and are usually performed in the open air with throngs of crowds. Holding a 6-meter pole for balance, the performer make thrilling movements with no safety devices, performances are accompanied by Uygur folk music, the aerial tightrope walker sings and dances to the beat, quickly alternating challenging movements.
