I was asked to create a mix between an online promo piece, and a short film encompassing the personality, and feel of the brand of zipyap, while showing the functionality of the app. As a filmmaker, I set out to create realistic characters that could carry you through the mini story, creating a subtle emotionally engaging experience, making you care about the main character, Michael, excited that he has come out of his studious shell and an organic welcome back celebration occurs all through the use of the app, zipayp.
In order to do this, it takes a little more time to see and connect with the characters, which is what we originally scripted, and simply put, what we shot (filmed). However, despite the idea of a short story pulling you in, online viewers, especially when it concerns an app, want things fast, and now. And that means a max attention of span of 3 minutes, (which I completely understand, and makes sense). However this means we ultimately had to cut it down to 3 minutes, you can find that cut, vimeo.com/82055694 in my videos as well. However, here is the edit closer to the original vision, the first cut, was actually just over 5 minutes, haha, but I think this is the best happy medium.
