The 2009 Tailwind Cyclocross Series in Southeast Michigan came to a close on Sunday December 6th. This final day of racing also served as the state finals. All in all it was a beautiful day with temps in the 20's, but clear skies. The below freezing temps helps explain my fancy racing attire. Maybe I should spend part of the off season shopping for actual cycling apparel.
This video combines the Category 4 (C) race and the Category 2,3,4 (B) race. For the uninitiated, the B race is longer and the riders are better. I'm a C racer. Rebecca captures the video while I race and then I grab the camera and shoot a little film during the B race. I had hoped to stick around to film the elite races, but two little boys rebelled and wanted to get out of the cold and into some warm lunch.
For those of you who raced, you'll notice the video attempts to construct a lap of the race course. Clips were not necessarily in the order of how the race unfolded, and as I previously stated, the two races are combined. The B race didn't start until 11am and by that time the off camber section had become a muddy mess. I'm pretty sure that no one was hurt in the "wrecks" I used in the video. If someone was, I apologize for using your misery for other's viewing pleasure.
Unfortunately they were not able to push the flags into the frozen ground for the kids race, so I had to make a slight design change to my original video plan. There was some additional footage I was going to use, but now it will disappear into the hard drive forever.
As the season wore on, I got to know some of the other racers and attempted to throw as much footage of you guys into the video as I could. Congratulations to all of you on a great season.
The last 30 seconds or so is of the kids race at Bloomer Park on November 22. Dallas insisted we take his bike and I think he really enjoyed it. He took his medal and pictures to preschool to show off his "race" to the other kids. Who knows, maybe next year he'll be racing without the training wheels.
Enjoy the video and I'll see all you 40+ year old racers next season when I move up. The question will be if I can get fast enough to Cat up.
