In the ever-shifting coded performances of language lies a space of the unfamiliar. The voice, once the hidden house signaling our collective social strata, becomes a site that lies outside of linguistic systems – a site of locational ambiguity that changes out of necessity. Whether these utterances elicit trauma, hesitation, skepticism, or patience, they are often contained within the frameworks of language, even as they exist on the margins of identification. Within such coded performances of identity, the “other” inhabits theses spaces with a negotiated sense of such the rigid constructions of social, cultural, and political strata.
Always a constant mediated performance, the voice (as an extension of the body) contains the possibility to queer the expectations of identification: a space that breaks beyond the check boxes of identifications.
