This is a time-lapse video of a groundwater sapping experiment. The experiment took a little over four days to complete. Groundwater slowly seeps to the surface and makes a valley. Such systems might have been active on Mars billions of years ago. Such experiments give insight in the processes and help interpreting the Martian landscape. The main questions for Mars are how much water was involved with these outflow events, and how long there was water on the surface?
