The Universities at Shady Grove Relief Efforts for the Typhoon Haiyan Victims
As you know, the Philippines was recently struck by one of the strongest typhoon recorded in history that left several thousand people without food, clean water, or shelter.
With an estimated 800,000 displaced from their homes, the USG community has come together to organize and participate in various relief efforts to provide much needed aid to the victims of the typhoon.
The Office of Student Services is accepting in-kind donations such as clothing, shoes, canned goods, first aid supplies, bedding, and toiletries. If you have a donation, please stop by the Office of Student Services in the Camille Kendall Academic Center. Donations will be accepted until December 20th and sent to the Philippines, courtesy of FOREX, the number one Filipino shipping company worldwide.
In addition, UMES Professor Brian Miller at USG is leading the One Vision Project to provide long term relief to the community of Carigara, one of the hardest hit areas by the typhoon. The One Vision Project is looking for individuals, classes, or student organizations to team up and collect in-kind donations and financial contributions to sponsor the shipping of donated goods to Carigara.
Please, join USG in helping World Vision's disaster relief efforts. World Vision provides emergency assistance to children and families affected by natural disasters. Our goal is to raise $1,000 dollars or more!
If you are interested in learning more about any of these projects or if you would like to donate, please visit the USG Office of Student Services.
If you would like to make a monetary donation, please visit the World Vision's website.
