"The life of a scarecrow changes when he decides to become friends with the birds"
This short film has been internationally acclaimed and received numerous awards since its premiere (including a pre selection to the Oscars)
This is not the final cut that was released, voices and music are not the final versions.
I was in charge of the creation and design of the characters and backgrounds, the storyboarding, the animation directing and the editing.
It was made mixing 2D backgrounds with 3D modeling into a false 3D environment in After Effects.

There´s a deeper approach to technical matters and "behind the scenes" (in English) at my web:

Maravilloso! Enhorabuena Carlos!!!

  • Carlos Lascano plus 3 years ago
    Gracias Emmanuel!

  • AdriX Guzmán 2 years ago

Great work, Carlos. Loved the animation, illustration and art direction. One doesn't have to speak the language to get the story. Brilliant job.

Stunning Carlos. Beautiful and very moving!
  •
  • Increíble, me gustó mucho.

Carlos you should register this (short film) under copywrite author, cuz I'm sure Dysney or Pixar could be very interested on the story and the film itself.

I saw your short film at the Chicago Film Festival in 2006, and I can't begin to express how I felt when I watched it. I have been watching animated shorts for years, and have never felt so moved by a film as I did with yours. I spent many hours searching for a place to buy a copy or watch it online, and was thrilled to find that you have posted it, so I can share it with my friends.

Carlos, este es muy bueno. Felicidades.

  • Beautiful work, combining 2.5D as a backdrop composited on stop-motion footage....

Great atmosphere and technique. I have to criticize the camera movements, they are nearly the same pace. You established the landscape beautifully, but the camera didn't have a POV, it wasn't the birds' POV or the scarecrows' POV, but the narrator's. I think it is stronger storytelling if the camera from a characters view - at least to change the POVs. The camera was too obvious, moved too methodically at times, can use more freedom.
  • Tah Phrum Duh Bush 3 years ago
You're being kinda hyper-critical don't you think? I'm not a film student/film maker and I thought it was brilliant and perfect in its own right.

    Saludos!

I found you your videos through a Spanish friend and I found the legend of scarecrow wonderful, It was like a real truth in life , you survive with what you don't like and die with your love. It was so tangible for me , even lost this friendship because of truth and paid a lot for this truth. I love this and inspiration a lot. thanks !
