Glasgow based artist Thomas Leyland-Collin's work focuses on the relationship between the soundscape and our perception of the surrounding environment, exploring how sounds can be used in a social context. In his practice he utilises technologies which have become redundant within the sphere of today's consumerist society but which are now freely available yet still retain the potential for creative endeavour.
For Sonica he created a shop window display of salvaged television sets which interacts directly with the viewer. Creating a sense of nostalgia through the use of by-gone jingles and advertisements, the work examines sound's role within advertising.
The window itself becomes a speaker which plays in response to the audience.
