This piece was a guided walk around the centre of Reykjavik, and was performed as part
of the Sequences Real Time Art Festival.
The video shows the raw footage I filmed whilst following inhabitants of the city. For my guided walk the following day, I retraced the footsteps of these people and described how they looked and what they did for walk participants.
I found it quite disconcerting how close I could get to my targets whilst filming, and how long it was possible for me to film without being detected. Perhaps this is something to do with the trusting Icelandic character, a result of the safety of Reykjavik when compared to any other capital city. I felt morally ambiguous when filming these people, but then considered that CCTV is doing the same thing every time we step out of the front door: the only difference being who is in possession of the footage.
