The Festival of Lessons and Carols is a service of Scripture and song that dates to the late 20th century. Scripture lessons are read, followed by a carol or other song that reflects on the lesson’s message. The format for this service originated in England in 1918 at King’s College, Cambridge, England, and thus began a tradition that is now almost 100 years old.
