I shot this footage off the Big Island of Hawaii from the LavaKai tour boat as the lava flowed in the ocean. This flow has actually made the island bigger over the years and the boat gets you right to the point of impact with the sea.

If you want to see lava up close and personal this is the way to go. I highly recommend the trip which lasts around 2.5 hours. For more information go to lavaocean.com It's pretty awesome to be that close to it and you do feel the heat from the flow and the heated ocean water. The sunrise tour has the best light and calmest seas.

If you don't want to be this close to lava or prone to seasickness, but get a great view from the ground, go out on the the Twilight Volcano Adventure by Hawaii Forest & Trail.

Technical info: Canon 7D w/16-35 lens, and yes, I used Smooth Cam in Final Cut Pro. That ocean is a bit unstable....Next time, I'm taking a gyro!
