WHO WE ARE
We’re the CURRENT SESSIONS, a NYC-based dance organization and presenting series founded in July 2011, now in our 3rd year. We present the works of emerging and mid-career contemporary choreographers on an intimate stage in 8 performances per year, known as SESSIONS; engage the NYC community educationally through workshops and TalkBacks; bring together choreographers, collaborators, dancers, artists of other mediums and dance enthusiasts under one roof; and provide a place for contemporary dance to thrive in our city, invigorating the scene.
The CURRENT SESSIONS Family consists of conservatory-trained artists (many with Bachelor & Master degrees) who have shown work in NYC, elsewhere in the US and even other countries (Italy & Israel). We aim to recognize and celebrate the ever-changing definition of what contemporary dance is.
WHY FUND US?
By launching our campaign the CURRENT SESSIONS: FUND A YEAR, we’re hoping to fund two SESSIONS (8 performances), 8 LAB // SESSIONS (8 workshop-type classes for dancers and non-dancers), increase our stipends for our Administrative Team, Production Team, Guest Artists, Talkback facilitators and our choreographers who teach at LAB // SESSIONS, and reduce/eliminate the Production Fee for our choreographers who are accepted to present work at the SESSIONS in either March or August 2014 Until this point, we have relied on our percentage of box office sales, choreographer application & production fees, and $2,000 from our Kickstarter in September 2011.
As we continue to expand with new initiatives, so do our expenses; yet, our income remains the same. As a non-profit startup with little seed money and a small part-time staff, there are few public grants available for us. Crowdsource funding and private donations are the most effective ways to raise money for our Organization (a recent article published by the SF Gate revealed that dance projects are fully funded 71% of the time on crowdfunding platforms, making it the most successfully-funded category).
We now look to YOU: our most loyal supporters, longtime friends, family, arts lovers and philanthropists, to help us reach our goal. Your investment in our Mission will ensure that we continue to deliver high-caliber choreography and fulfilling artist & audience experience for which we are known. We thank you in advance for your generous contribution!
WHAT WE NEED TO FUND
We need $11,000 to FUND A YEAR of programming, which includes:
8 performances in 2 SESSIONS
8 workshop classes
stipends for both the Administrative and Production Team
stipends for Talkback Facilitators and our Guest Artists

funds for marketing materials
We also aim to reduce/eliminate the Production Fee for accepted choreographers into the SESSIONS.
For even as little as $10, your contribution can make a difference:
$10 can pay for an hour of rehearsal time for one of our choreographers
$25 is half of a stipend for a LAB // SESSION Choreographer
$50 can pay for a stipend for a Curation Team Member
$125 can pay for one Production Fee that a choreographer pays to present work
$200 can pay for our Production Manager for one SESSION
$350 can pay for Marketing Materials for the whole year
$650 can pay for our Lighting Designer for 4 performances and 2 dress rehearsals
