I grew up with David back in Wales. We went to Art College together then went our separate ways. A few years later we met up as he was recording the infamous 'White Ladder'. At this point, he was not the million selling artist that he is now. Quite the opposite in fact. He asked me to shoot a promo for him and given there was hardly any money involved, it was one of the first promo's I shot digitally. We were very much anti the glossy models and beautiful people that inhabited a lot of promos at the time. and so we decided to approach from a documentary point of view, creating a snapshot of 24 hours featuring real people in mundane, ordinary situations. The faces and what they do somehow become extraordinary. Ended up being nominated for a MTV VMA Award though it eventually lost out to Coldplay. Oh well...
