Under the Mango Tree is a documentary film about the Shekhinah Clinic food program, which feeds over 150 mentally ill homeless every day in Tamale, Ghana. Dr. David Abdulai lost his parents and all ten of his siblings to malnutrition-related diseases, and with the help of a few samaritans, made his way through medical school. He established a free clinic in his hometown of Tamale, one of poorest cities in Ghana, in 1991, and launched the food program the following year. His wife, Mariam, now runs the program with a team of volunteer cooks and drivers who hand-deliver the meals seven days a week. The film is an inspiring look at their dedication to the poor in today’s globally depressed economy.
