In this video essay, as virtual as abstract, a trip to meet the Elephant and the self through a philosophical approach to history, a fragment of the text “Looking For the Elephant: A philosophical way of looking for and at history” by Russell Hartill, is narrated while we navigate into what seems to be a close up to skin of an elephant, but actually turns out to be a tour into the African savannah with the help of Google Earth. In my wish to meet the biggest and threatened mammal on land, a safari in such a distanced manner, non personal, non exotic, made me wonder if I had actually found a needle in a haystack or if the quality of my insignificant acts had become somewhat absurd, poetical or maybe beaut quixotism.
