The Spoleto Festival was a creation of the composer, Gian Carlo Menotti over 50 years ago. His son Francis took over the festival over a decade ago as Gian Carlo's old age made it impossible for him to continue as festival director.
Sadly Gian Carlo died in 2007, leaving the festival rights to his natural successor, Francis. Just one year later the Italian authorities had forced Francis out, repossessing his homes and taking the festival away from the Menotti family.

I am an artist-producer from Spoleto. I have very much appreciated your documentary and highly respect Francis's position on the whole situation. 50 years of the Festival have had a tremendous impact on the town and the region. Even beyond Menotti's expectations. Many positive outcomes. But also a growing dependency of the town from this event. Menotti has suffered from the closed, ignorant provincial mentality of the spoletini. The politicians have certainly given the last final deadly push. But it is a whole system, which the festival represented, that does not work anymore. The time has changed and the memories of the pass cannot be revived. Everything is still too fresh to see clearly in perspective, but initiatives like yours are important to reflect and learn how to improve the future.
The only thing I would kindly ask you to do, please, is to change some of the tags you have used. Including words like mafia, religion, corruption is a bit misleading. It gives a superficial interpretation of your story, which is much more complex. And it does not serve the purpose of your work. Thank you
