3. Run, My Lovely, Run - HG10 60i>24p Slow Motion Test
4 months ago
jamesokubo.com

A quick and dirty test of converting 1080/60i footage into slow motion 1080/24p footage with a little color correction action. Done in a couple of hours - just needed to know that the HG10 could produce results I could count on.

Specs:
Canon HG10
1080/60i
1/100 shutter speed

Post:
After Effects
Time-Stretched (1/2 speed)
Converted to 23.976fps

CCed in Magic Bullet

Followed these detailed instructions in this article (just make sure you interpret the footage with the proper Field Dominance): rarevision.com/v1/articles/slow_motion.php#

Umm, where is the all the blurring in the 24p and unusable footage in 24p?

    That is amazing.

And considering that vimeo is now converting to 30p, everything looks fine?

I'm all blasted and confused about this 24p stuff. Will have to read the article in full later.

    Nice work man.

    Thanks, Brian.
Well, just so we're clear, this footage was not shot in 24p (if you're talking about the whole "ghosting" controversy with the 24p mode on the HG10 - I, myself, am still not convinced about the issue either). This footage was shot 60i and later converted into 23.976fps using After Effects. It's simple to do and it looks freakin great. Hope the articles of use to you!

yep, that did the trick. I'm on a Mac too and After Effects seemed to do the trick. Now to just find the right thing to slow down. Hmm..

Now to learn After Effects more.

I'm new to the after effects world, any suggestions on how to get started, I've edited with Final cut, Premeire for almost 7 years, and I understand keyframes, I just need a jumping off point with AE.
