I've been working hard on my marine education website literasea.ca and also volunteering as an "Oceaneer" at the Shaw Ocean Discovery Centre. At the SODC I came across one of my favourite inhabitants of the Salish Sea, The Grunt Sculpin! This little dude is not only super cute he has some amazing adaptations to life on the ocean floor. For one, the Grunt Sculpin uses his pectoral fins like legs to scoot across the ocean floor! If you didn't notice, he doesn't really look all that much like a fish at all. When threatened he can dive headfirst into an abandoned giant acorn barnacle shell and wave his tail to resemble a feeding barnacle. Sneaky Sneaky!
