Marcela Romero, regional coordinator for REDLACTRANS (Latin American and Caribbean Transgender Network), accepts the 2009 Clarence H. Moore Award for Excellence for Voluntary Service at the Awards for Excellence in Inter-American Public Health Event held September 29, 2009, in Washington, DC. The award is a joint award given by the Pan American Health and Education Foundation (PAHEF) and Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).
Ms. Romero is a transgendered person who worked for 10 years to be legally recognized as a woman in her native country of Argentina.
