ABOUT the STORY by Mirek and Polina: I did the first-round sketches for the characters which Sabina developed and animated. Some of them, the character Yagor for example, were created from scratch. I had a different Yagor in my mind. Mirek was not satisfied with what I drew and Sabina’s boy was more alive and childish. Bagan was an easy one. His relative is very common in Russian folk-tales. When I read the story a few times, I started to imagine that Baba’s home was a volcano, then red sheep emerged and other characters followed. There were many mysterious powers in the story. Some of them were working against Yagor and some were helping him to survive. The story was dark but very vivid visually and it was very appealing to me. Mirek did a bit of everything, from watercolors, drawings, art-direction and storyboards to animation. I wonder now how he managed us to make this story!
