In this video press release, Assemblymen Ralph R. Caputo (D-Essex) and Patrick J. Diegnan, Jr. (D-Middlesex) discuss their legislation that would require public schools in New Jersey to be equipped with panic alarms and red emergency lights for use in school security emergencies.
The bill (A-3691) would require that all public elementary and secondary schools in the state be equipped with a panic alarm for use in a security emergency, including, but not limited to, a non-fire evacuation, lockdown, or active shooter situation. The silent alarm would be in addition to any existing security systems and would immediately connect with local police upon being triggered.
