DNV KEMA Climate Change Adaptation Initiatives
Climate change presents challenges on many fronts. The figures and data that give by the IPCC and other scientific institutions claim to redouble our efforts to better understand how it evolves, but also to provide technical and policy solutions to the challenges it presents.
DNV KEMA has a history of 150 years in the area of risk management. As a natural evolution to that story, the company incorporated in the second half of the twentieth century, the issues of sustainability and climate change. Among the latter, adaptation occupies an important place in the work of the company’s experts.
It is important that adaptation measures are implemented timely and adequately to safeguard assets and resources for present and future generations. KEMA's work focuses specifically on the use of a quantitative risk-based approach, where risk is measured as the expected monetary loss. This allows for transparent comparison of the cost of implementing an adaptive measure and its risk reduction efficiency.
DNV KEMA has denominated this methodology "DNV KEMA Adapt: framework for risk-based adaptation to climate change". The presentation is divided into two parts: A first one that will present the KEMA experience on climate change and adaptation and the second part, the technical presentation of DNV KEMA Adapt.
