Exhibited works:
"Echo Navigo", 2004
Scientific Name: Anmorome Istiophorus platypterus Uram
etched stainless steel, aluminum, painted fiberglas, circuits, motors, CPU board, custom software, cable
22 x 21 x 91" / 56 x 64 x 232 cm
The "Echo Navigo" lives near huge antenna in the city, and eats a variety of electric waves. Therefore, these electronic-beings have fins enabling them to fly through the flow of electric waves. During the daytime they can make their body transparent, and become nearly invisible.
These creatures were first found by a telephone engineer, who was trying to find the reason for the echo caused by the creature’s fast flight around radio antennae. The larvae of "Echo Navigo" were found nearby.
"Urbanus Male", 2006
Scientific Name: Anmopista Volaticus Floris Uram
10 x 10 x 110" / 25 x 25 x 287 cm
United Research of Anima-Machines, a.k.a. U.R.A.M., has recently released a remarkable study in relation to the discovery of a new inorganic creature. The discovery of this new machine-organism, which lives on urban energy, is sure to cause a sensation amongst urban energy researchers. According to U.R.A.M., this machine-organism has a system resembling that of plants, which photosynthesize solar energy. It is classified into the female "Urbanus", which directly incepts urban energy, and the male Urbanus, which imbibes the electric energy discharged as photons by the female. U.R.A.M. has named this new machine-organism Urbanus, meaning a lover of the urban.
"Urbanus Female Larva", 2006
Scientific Name: Anmopista Volaticus Floris Uram
Etched stainless steel, LED, circuits, motors, CPU board, custom software, cable
50 x 60 x 60 cm / 20" x 24" x 24"
The "Female Urbanus" has a shape similar to that of a flower, and when releasing its incepted energy as light it opens its leaf-like body parts. It emits light from the genitals also, from which a great number of electrically charged particles are released. "Male Urbanus", which prowl around the female waiting for the moment that light is released, also open their leaf-like body parts to receive the photons.
