Peripherie comprises still & animated black & white photographs, taken at a specific site situated outside the historic city Weimar in the former ‘East’ of Germany.

The site contained a building complex originally constructed by the German Nazis army, circa 1940. Taken over in 1945 by the USSR army, local GDR civilians did not have access to the site until after 1989. Presently most of the buildings are derelict, some have been destroyed some converted into flats.
‘Peripherie’ is a work created from documentation photographs taken by the artist whilst on residency in Weimar in 1997. The artist selected internal images of the buildings form this documentation and animated a selection of these. The rooms and corridors seem paradoxically familiar and foreign, they are decaying, (or now destroyed). The soldiers and patients that replaced them are gone. The buildings remain holding more than the visible remnants of ideologies…
