Welcome to the premier of "This Week In Space With Miles O'Brien," a new show dedicated to keeping space lovers up to speed on the stories and issues making news off the planet . This week: an in-depth look at the future of human space flight as the Obama Administration prepares new marching orders for NASA...an interview with astronaut Nicole Stott, recently home from at three month tour of duty on the International Space Station...and a news roundup from around the space beat.

the Ares-1 is TOO expensive and already DEAD [ ow.ly/K1UO ] while the "commercial space" can't replace the Space Shuttle nor the Ares-5 since the max payload of the best new.space rocket (the Falcon-9) is less than 5% of the payload needed for a Lunar mission (that's around 200 tons)

No one is talking about Space X (or any other private Company) doing moon missions. Space X and one other (Orbital sciences) have only been given contracts for ISS cargo delivery. Space X is the only private co that may do launches with humans.
All of the plans put forward have NASA developing some type of heavy lifter (Ares V, Ares lite, or closer to shuttle derived like Direct). I hope Ares V happens as it has the highest amount of payload capacity of the various lifters being discusses, which provides the more options and capability.

Rich is right; the proposals from the Augustine Commission is to have commercial space replace crew ferry not heavy lift. All options for heavy lift are lighter Ares V, existing EELV, or Shuttle derived systems.

I like the comment from Adrian; my guess is that there will be more EU content as Spaceflightnow.com is a UK born website (I paid my subscriptions to a UK bank until last year)!

Hope they also cover the ohter side of the world, lots of activity in India, Japan, PRC, the Korea's, Malaysia, etc (so as not to leave anyone out!). We need lot's of competition outside the US to spark activity here (old story...)!

Miles--it is awesome. The segment lengths are perfect and the show moves at a great tempo. If there is anything I can ever do to help you market the show--please let me know.

Awesome Program. I look forward to more installments. At the end of your episode you mentioned covering items of interest to the viewers. John Hunter's natural-gas powered Quicklauncher system? Love your program!
