A bootie beer is a beer drunk from a river shoe, aka: bootie. Bootie beers must be drunk if you swim gnarly whitewater as a penance for risking your friends lives as they chase you, your kayak and your gear downstream until they retrieve you and everything along with it.

Here, at the Futaleufu River in Chile, I demonstrate a poor kayak roll as I pull my head out of the water first, flipping me back upside down until I decide to swim, followed by the photo evidence of river karma paid in full with a bootie beer.
