The Story Beyond the Still "The Cabbie" - Behind The Scenes
2 years ago
Introducing the first user-generated HD Video Contest where photographers become filmmakers, and we all see beyond the still. To kick off the contest, Canon asked me to interpret what story I saw beyond the still, and to tell that story with the new Canon EOS 7D. My short film will be the first chapter of seven, each ending with a still photograph for the next aspiring filmmaker to interpret. Posing the question to everyone, what do you see beyond the still?

Let em know what you think.
Thanks, Mr. Vincent Laforet.
I love seeing all of your support/rigging/lighting toys in action, too!
First, I want to say what an awesome concept this is for a contest! I love it!
Secondly, I am curious if the poorer people, like myself, who can only afford an HDV camera like the Canon HV40/HV40 will still be eligible. I hope so! :D
Thirdly, HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Take care,
Matt
This contest has amazing potential to open up collaborate filmmaking to the community and we hope everyone who is eligible will participate! The prizes are fantastic. More info coming on the 7th!
Great job on this, BTW, Blake.
Can't wait to see the short film and embark on a contest that'll put the astronomical creativity that the users from this site have to offer to the limit and beyond.
I am a bit worried that small cameras are used but major gear (see the steadycam). Hope some good low budget films will kick ass.
The idea is phantastic though.
The movie behind the still concept has always been a drive for me in both photography, film and general art.
Even taking that concept and painting: implying an entire story with motion and sounds and feelings and sticking it into one still image.
That's art.
So I personally want to open this up somehow. We're looking to find a way to make it happen for everyone in SOME way - but there are some real legal issues at play here. SO I MAKE NO GUARANTEES - but if we can - we'll do something to include everyone. Fair enough?
After all, the film starts at an airport..... the next chapter could go to just about anywhere.
I'm looking forward to seeing the results even if I don't actually go film anything myself.
can't wait to see these wow..
Look forward the final series!
Looking forward to read and know more about all this (rules, etc,..)
but that still doesn't mean you can't participate!!
Do you have a transcription of The Story Beyond the Still - Behind The Scenes by Vincent Laforet ? I know some very talented individuals who are from other countries than those that speak English. They can read written English well, however, they have a difficult time understanding it spoken. If this contest is open to people around the globe, then I would like to provide this information to them. Also, if it is open to people from around the world and you do not have a transcription, I will put on my ear plugs and transcribe it for them. Either way it is best, please let me know.
but i lack pations to see your results!
to my mind canon(or who hold this contest) should take into account this fact and should only allow people with small budget to take part in it, because only THIS will help them to find new talents...
all of these professional filmmakers has just almost everything they need, but sometimes their films are worse than films, made by someone with a cheap camera and a standard tripod...
- why the US only?
- i thnik u have some friends here who would like to take part in this contest, how are u going to judge them?
- and again, i was talking about another thing, i was trying to say that if someone's idea is better, but filming wasnt as perfect as a professional has, how will u judje them, bc at this point money can be the determinant factor
thank you!
Everyone will be judged on a variety of different criteria, but I will tell you that you do not need fancy equipment to win.
"The purpose of this contest is to help spread the excitement amongst all of YOU. To make everyone feel like you/they/we can partake in this technological paradigm shift." (Email Vincent Laforet)
Funny, but YOU guys excluded most people on this planet to take part in your great contest.
