Through the C&O Canal tavern lock (preview)
Shot in the summer of 2000 in the C&O Canal national historical park just a few miles out from D.C. along the Potomac River, here's a preview of a short movie I'm compiling with scenes and impressions from the lush and beautiful area.
Of possible interest for people familiar with the park this video contains footage of the Canal Clipper II locking through, taken shortly before the boat was retired.
The video was recorded using a Sony VX1000 and a Canon GL1, both of which very nice cameras for their time. I still haven't found any HDV 3CCDs shooting nearly as subjectively "rich" as the VX1000.
I'm slowly migrating to solid state shooting. I knew this day was coming, it's just been moving faster than I expected. I'll shortly be retiring my tape based cameras, and considering that hard drives cost next to nothing these days, and that the tapes and tape mechanisms deteriorate over time, I've started committing approximately 3 terabytes worth of tapes from the past fifteen years to hard drive. Of course this includes lots of junk on Hi8 that I'll probably never use, but also a few interesting things like this footage that I had almost forgotten about.
