Pretty damn neat skills you got. The making-of production seems like it took some effort as well.
  • Yeah! the easiest part is the recording of it....you just set it up and go....but the editing is what was tedious....there were nearly 1800 photos and they all had to be color graded, re-sized, converted to image sequences, re-sized again in FCP, then converted, then exported :)

maybe I should make a video of the process of the process...heh
  • Zach B plus 2 years ago
Thank goodness for batch processing :) Video might have been easier, but I like the style. Definitely went out of your way to show how it was done. Those are some chops, job well done brother.

I LOVE THIS! I really like videos looking down at a workspace with lots of different textures... not sure if that makes sense. It reminds me of a WAY BETTER version of an open I made for a web series. I'll need to take some pointers from you guys.

Amazing work, very creative. Can you do this for all your projects? :D
  • Thanks! glad you enjoy it! I would love to do this for all of our projects :) just need to get used to stay up until 4-5am every night recording the process, hehe.
  •
  • Thomas Bertin 2 years ago
Beautiful work. I love it, but the process seems extremely cumbersome to me... I do all my sketching and thumbnails and what-not with my Wacom.
  • Thomas,

Lol, yeah, it was pretty tedious.....but fun nonetheless.... Lots of late nights 4am, 5am.....

Wacom tablets rock! we have one of the older large size ones. Danielle loves it for photo color grading, re-touching, etc.

I havent tried sketching with it much though, I should give it a try, might be fun. It seems like it would be hard to get used to for sketching, since im so accustomed to drawing on actual paper :)

Holy crap that was awesome, always love these videos but this one, the minor editing in the video to sync with the music is just amazing

I would also love to be on the mailing list with sheldon if that's possible
  • Kevin,

I had originally planned to just play the video out as it was but Danielle tweaked it in FCP to match up in a couple spots...glad you enjoyed it :)

PM me with your address and ill get one to you.

  • Gene Carlo Magtoto 2 years ago
Wow. It's nice to have the behind the scenes of making such a project. It also feels inspiring to see the things you had to go through to make those cards, rather than just seeing the final product.
  • Agreed, I am addicted to behind the scenes videos. Seeing the process is sometimes equally rewarding as seeing the product. If you haven't already, you should check out the King Kong Production Diaries by Peter Jackson....those have got to be one of the coolest behind the scenes series out there. Very raw + real and informative.

    ~Casey W.
  • Gene Carlo Magtoto 2 years ago
Wow, the Production Diaries are really that good. It's given me a new perspective on the movie, hehe. Thanks for telling me about it. :D
I should put my mind into documenting all the stuff I'm working on. Thanks again.

I'll send you a PM with hopes of getting one, if you have an extra of course! ;)

  • Wendy Cazares 2 years ago
I love this! The photos were great! I agree with Gene Carlo, it's very inspiring and very cool to see the behind the scenes making of the cards. I'm already thinking up ideas for my own.

So is there a mailing list for the fans? Wishful thinking but you'll never know if you never ask. :)
  • Casey Warren 2 years ago
    Wendy,

would love to see what you make! you should post a video of your process.

I've got a few left ;) PM me your address and I'll mail you one when I get back in town.

  • Paul Wong plus 2 years ago
The video editing and production was more amazing for me. Nice work! Why use 3 chairs and not the legs of the tri-pod?
  • Casey Warren 2 years ago
    Paul,

the tripod legs weren't long enough when fully extended, but by only just a couple inches, so we collapsed it down a bit and popped it on the chairs...we have some larger tripods upstairs, but that was our best 3am work around, heh ;)

    -Casey W.

really great and inspiring video! could you tell me what font you used for "happy holidays"?
  • Martin,

hey, glad you enjoyed. The font is from myfonts.com I think. I am not quite sure on the exact one but they have some great stuff there and they also have some amazing tools to find out what fonts are which.

    Best,

    Casey W.

  • Chang Liu 2 years ago
That was amazing. How long have you been using photoshop?
  • Chang,

Been using photoshop for quite sometime now. Its an amazing program that gets better and better each time you use it. I find that its always better to sketch something out first and expand the possibilities in photoshop. It adds another dimension to everything.

Also, I love how all the adobe products integrate together too, bridge-photoshop-aftereffects, etc, etc...

Wow, I am UBER jealous of you right now. You really put a lot into the finally product and it was worth it. How long was this process? A week, a month, or maybe more in the making.
  • Andrew,

The process was actually pretty quick. We had 1 week to get it all done, heh...there were lots of late nights workin on it, we only worked on it after we put in 8-10 hours of working on other projects that we had to get done before the holidays.

Overall we had alot of fun. Our kitchen is currently still set up as a photo studio though, hehe :)

man this awsome , i am a graphic designer , and you know something is this very inspiring to me , good job
which camera did use ?? and how u made the colors ?? which color effect u use
    nice work bro
  • Karim,

Thanks! I used the Canon 5d mark II and the Canon 7d. I used an intravalometer set at different intervals throughout the process. Its all played back at 10-15 fps depending on the scene. Colors were made in photoshop with overlapping composite modes, while varying the degree of opacity. I graded all the frames in photoshop with batch editing and curves.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the piece :)

Fantastic, I love to see the creative process behind the product :)

    Great work!
  • Thanks! I am also a big fan of behind-the-scenes videos for films, motion graphics, etc.... I am addicted to the extended editions of DVDs they put out with all the extra featurettes, on filmmaking and the whole process, and so on. I could watch that kind of stuff for hours :)
