This is the first video that introduces my book and multimedia project entitled: Dream of the Water Children. The history of European colonization and American military destruction and occupations in the Asia-Pacific are charted through my intimate and ancestral experiences as a child of an African-American military man and Japanese national mother who met during the Korean War. Told in unique ways, this work is inter-disciplinary, genre-bending, and based on the realities of sociological haunting (referring to Avery Gordon's work: Ghostly Matters and Grace Cho's Haunting the Korean Diaspora as well as Jacques Derrida's "The Work of Mourning). However, the work focuses mainly on my mother and my relationship with her, making this more than a book about biracial specialness and touch upon continents, people, communities and times that are far-reaching. This book will be published in Fall 2014. You can go to my website or blog for more info. WEB: swordglint.wix.com/waterchildren BLOG: waterchildren.wordpress.com/
