17. Palma de Mallorca's Bay, a 24 hour Timelapse
2 years ago
I love Timelapse Photography. I especially enjoy looking for the patterns that show up when time appears to be moving faster than usual.

I first felt in love with it when I watched the films "Baraka" and "Koyaanisqatsi: Life out of Balance", where it is used heavily to show everyday life from a different perspective.

For some time I wanted to create a Timelapse of Palma de Mallorca's Bay, in Spain. There's magic in this Bay and after 24 hours and 4320 photographs, (and a little help from the weather gods!) here's what came out.

Filmed with a Canon DSLR 7D, and a 17-40mm lens. One photo taken every 20 seconds remotely with a intervalometer. Put together in Quicktime Pro, and final edit in Final Cut Pro.

Music is Hymn by Moby.

Special thanks to Andreu Llabrés for letting us film from the balcony of his Hotel Horizonte overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

Franklin, this is ABSOLUTELY lovely! Very well done! How did you do the transition from daytime to night time and then back again?

Were you shooting in Auto exposure mode or what? I'm very interested because I've been getting a huge headache doing a similar thing here in LAgos, Nigeria.

Once again, great job, and have a happy new year!

Hi Theophilus and thanks for your comments!

I set the camera at an fixed Aperture of 11, and left the shutter on automatic, so that it would adjust to the changes in exposure. The ISO was also set on a fixed number in order to avoid running into too much noise at night.

Good luck with your Lagos Timelapse, looking forward to seeing it!

Franklin, thanks for the response. I just watched your beautiful video like a hundred times again (ok. maybe just 90 times!). And I'm asking now, "HOW ON EARTH DID YOU AVOID/CORRECT for the dreaded "FLICKER" problem??

You can check this link for my (beginner) time lapse videos of Lagos vimeo.com/8218940.

    Thanks.

Jaime muchas gracias!

fantastic timelapse. the music fits perfectly and the view is just impressive. especially the moment at 2.03 is stunning. i like your idea to set the shutter on automatic, so the cam can adjust the different exposure. i have to try this, thanks for that.
keep it up! i will follow you.

This is wonderful. My favorite part was when the boats came in at night with all of the lights on.
