In February 2009, the United States announced a review of its policy toward Burma/Myanmar, leading to new engagement over the future of Burma's relationship with the United States and the international community. Professor David I. Steinberg's new book, Burma/Myanmar: What Everyone Needs to Know, details the history and society that created the modern Burma/Myanmar, providing a background to the country's changing relationship with the world. Professor Steinberg will introduce his book, giving an assessment of the current state of U.S.-Burma relations, detailing the situation within the country, and describing the challenges that lie ahead for global engagement with Burma/Myanmar.
