For you problem encoding, you can now upload 2Go video using the vimeo uploader. Did you try ? COuld be ok because you're PLUS user now (5Go a week).
You can also try to output a 640x360 (real 16/9 in xvid for example) to win compression space...

i read through the guides, but this 2 gb possibility w/ the uploader was never mentioned... i tried the desktop uploader a long time ago, but didn't really work out :/ i'll try deffo and thx a lot for that hint :)))
