“Gilbert Bécaud and I were working with my band in our L.A. studio. Gilbert’s favorite drink was scotch on the rocks, so I just started fooling around with a dummy lyric with that title.

The lyrics were very frivolous and so we started to play it in a reggae feel. When the verse was formed Gilbert and I felt the song had more serious possibilities and so we tried it as a straight two-and-four ballad. With the addition of an emotional chorus section, it became a full-fledged musical expression. It is so much fun to listen to.” ND

SCOTCH ON THE ROCKS
Neil Diamond and Gilbert Bécaud

Scotch on the rocks
You at my side
Pour me a drink
Nowhere to hide
Love on the loose
Said that I lied
Scotch on the rocks
(Soda on the side)

You in my arms
Me in your hair
Pour me a drink
Tell me you care
Love on the loose
Said that I lied
Scotch on the rocks
Soda on the side

De de de de de de de de dum
De de de de de de de de de...

Scotch on the rocks
You in my arms
Pour me a drink
Talk of your charms
Love on the loose
Said that I lied
Scotch on the rocks
Soda on the side
